ADVISE FROM A CORPORATE CEO
When you REJECT a CANDIDATE, don't hurt their chances of getting another job.
1. Tell the RECRUITER all the strong points you saw in the candidate
2. Give the candidate some advice on the resume and the interview. It does not cost anything to be nice
3. Get back to the candidate's RECRUITER quickly
4. If you know someone else who may need them, why not help ALL sides and tell the candidate's RECRUITER.
On the last point, early in my career, someone told me they dont need me but made a call to another place (a restaurant) and recommended me there. I got the job and I can never forget the woman who helped me.
And I still remember the name of her restaurant, the one that rejected me, fondly.
Be someone who people remember.
